TALEK PRIMARY SCHOOL MAASAI MARA NATIONAL GAME RESERVE
Talek School is in the Masai Mara region rift valley in Narok county Maasai Mara National Game Reserve. School has an enrollment of 825 students through the 8th grade. Currently housing 250 boys in the boarding school, there is a need for mosquito nets to protect the children from the threat of malaria. The cost is low-less than $10 per net but out of the reach of most of these students. The day school is free tuition, but boarding fees run about $10/month in an area that is dependent on small herd livestock for income.
Orientation: Orientation meeting will take place in Nairobi before proceeding to the project
Accommodation: At a host family. Please note that you will share the typical living conditions of a Kenyan family. There will be no electricity but strong solar pannels, no shower and pipe water/taps at the accommodation. Volunteers will be using buckets for bathing. Water will be boiled for drinking purposes and those who prefer can buy bottled water.
Location: Maasai Mara National Game Reserve is located in the Riftvalley approximately 6 hours drive from Nairobi. Transport to the project will be by public transport. The closest Market is 5 minutes walk, Post Office, Banks (ATMs), Internet and other social facilities are located in Talek Town.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Wildlife conservation: offer volunteer placements in an effort to promote conservation education, awareness and imparting skills to local and international volunteers. Those who join the placement include students and adults who seek a break away from their jobs in pursuit of a change.
Volunteers will be teaching English, computer training, physical activities.
Volunteers also have the opportunity to participate in outreach programs including:
- Youth mentorship programs
- Repairs and renovation
- Donating education materials e.g. books, pens etc.
- Home visits and nature walk
