Project description

Child care and Nursery school is project implemented by the local Church involving children from various faith backgrounds. The project focuses on the children from the age of 3-6 years old before joining primary education, with the aim of laying foundation for children’s learning and holistic development. By involving children in this project we develop the cognitive, physical, social and emotional skills that they need to succeed in life. These early experiences are largely determined by, among other factors, supportive family and community care practice and learning opportunities.

Project Activities

Volunteers will be involved in the following activities: assisting in teaching English, math, writing and drawings; playing various sports and games with children; preparing various competitions; teaching music; home visit for children with difficulties.

Study part

Participants of this project will have an opportunity to experience life with kids in the community and the project sites. Various discussions and educational visits on children’ issues will be organized involving participants of the project, community members and visited places. The major topic will be child development. Volunteer are encourage to search for information regarding this topic from their home communities and bring the information for sharing.

Accommodation and meals

Volunteers will share simple rooms at the communal house in the community. There are running  water and electricity. The facility in located in a very strategic point to view the highest Mountain in Africa, Kilimanjaro. Meals are mostly organic both vegetarian and non-vegetarian.

Location of the Project

Marera is one of the communities located along the sloops of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the Northern  Tanzania. It is high density community; people are mostly engaged in coffee and Banana farming,  dairy farming and business. The community is located about 45km from the town center (Moshi) and accessible by private and public transport. Having sharing boarder with Kilimanjaro National Park, the landscape is ever green throughout the year.

Free time activities

Possibilities are hiking to Kilimanjaro gate, eco and cultural tourism in Chagga and Masai community, Swimming & Relaxing at Lake Chala and Wildlife safari. (Ngorongoro Creator, Lake Manyara and Tarangire National parks). More details can be requested for planning.

Special Requirements

Patience, Creative and flexible to work in an environment with limited resources, Interest in working with Children, Interest in teaching sports, games, music, dance and drama, Basic knowledge of English, willing to share leadership roles, and having a sense of adventure.


The official languages of the project are English and Kiswahili. You do not have to be fluently.


Volunteers will be picked up at Kilimanjaro International Airport or Bus station within Moshi town. AI  will organize transport to the project area.

Extra Fee

[Non-refundable €270; or equivalent Tanzania shillings to be paid on arrival] This fee cover the cost  of prior communication, pick-up from arrival destination, accommodation during the project, 3 meals a  day during the camp, in-country management, administration costs and partly project materials when needed. The fee does not cover any kind of insurance, visas & permits, vaccinations, pocket money, drop off on departure day, incidentals etc. We are non-profit organization without external funding.   Most of the costs of the projects are sustained through participation fee from the volunteers and participants of our programs.
